Trip to Poros Island Greece May 2005
To Poros we arrived in the morning in May just before start the tourist season. The port in poros is small and very sympatic like on every Greek Island. We have booked accommodation in the hotel Dimitra which was as we found 10 min walk along the sea. So we walked with our ludgagge on the bank seeing fishermen, shops, then we went around the Navy base in Poros with lots of navy soldiers
After small bridge wich connecting the bay with the sea we got to our accommodation. It was hotel with cca 20 rooms and apartments, with swimingpool, small restaurant and reception. The room was nice with kitchen, own bathroom and aircondition.
In May is not so hot just enough for swiming. The Poros Island is not so busy like from July.The main season is there between June and August. And you ca be sure that lots of hotels are fully booked during this period and it is much better to book hotel in advance
Right after we checked in we went to swim, the water was nice and the beach was almost empty as it was still before the season. We enjoyed it!
In the afternoon we rent bycicles and take the way around the island. It was long trip along the sea maybe more then 10 km. We saw sand beaches but also pine-tree beaches.
There are small villages on Poros Island and people are very friendly.
After we returned back to the hotel Dimitra we fell down to the bed and slept for while as the trip makes us tired.
At the evening we asked some other guests at the hotel to recommend us nice place to eat
It was English mature couple and they send us nearby to some familly restaurant. So we went there and it was easy to find it.
It is restaurant run by English family. There is no menu! When we sit down (still tired) the lad lady came to us and sit down to our table asking us what we like to eat!!!
So, instead of menu you talk what and she suggest. It is little strange coz I am sure that "sheepish" persons can easily truckle to her "suggestions" and finaly order something what he never like to order!
Fortunately we had very nice meal (one vegetarian dish, one baby meal, and one beef)
The cost was ok. Then we returned to the hotel where was kind of party. The owner ordered a singer for that evening who performe also grrek dance.
Poros insland is nice and warm. 2-3 days trip is ideal
